At the office of Richard Lestz, DDS, we offer several options if you're interested in whitening your teeth to their brightest and whitest natural state. Options for Whitening Your Teeth There are many whitening options available so it may seem overwhelming, especially when you have a wedding to plan! Four popular and options with varying speed and consistency of results which you might consider are: we offer a one hour, in-office whitening treatment with custom whitening trays and gels Over-the-counter gels and other products Whitening Toothpastes

How does teeth whitening work?

In-office teeth whitening. Dr Richard uses Zoom Teeth Whitening® which is a leading tooth whitening system that is the culmination of extensive research into light activated chemical technology and years of traditional whitening experience. Zoom!® uses a specially designed UV light in combination with a specifically formulated whitening gel. Zoom!® is safe, effective and very fast, and performed only by a dental professional. In-office whitening is slightly more expensive than other options, but the time that you save by having immediate results can make this option appealing.

At-home whitening trays and gels are effective as well, however the desired results take longer to achieve. The gel-filled trays generally need to be worn for several hours a day or overnight, and it usually takes 3 or 4 days before any results are noticed. Teeth whitening kits provided by Dr Richard Lestz and his team will produce faster and more effective results because they contain a stronger peroxide-whitening agent than kits that can be purchased over the counter.

Does home whitening work?

Over-the-counter whitening products such as whitening strips are fairly inexpensive but are not as strong as most gels and may produce inconsistent and potentially uneven results. Further, seeing results usually takes take longer since the peroxide-whitening agent in teeth whitening strips is not as strong as the chemicals available from a dentist.
Whitening toothpastes contain mild abrasives to remove surface stains. Some whitening toothpastes may have additional polishing agents and special chemicals that are more effective against stains than regular toothpastes, but these toothpastes are not designed to actually whiten your teeth.

Are You a Good Candidate for Whitening Your Teeth?

While having your teeth whitened is relatively inexpensive and can produce amazing results, but it's not for everyone. Teeth whitening does not produce the same results on all types of teeth discoloration. Someone with yellow-tinted teeth would probably have great results with whitening procedures, while someone with gray-tinted teeth might be disappointed because they don't whiten as well.

If you have tooth coloring fillings and / or crowns and bridges, they will be darker after your teeth are bleached because they don't lighten with the whitening process.

A person with gum disease should not get their teeth whitened.
During your visit to our office Dr Richard Lestz or one of hygienists will be able to quickly tell you if you would be a good candidate for teeth whitening.
